Are you staying in the “city that never sleeps” for Memorial Day Weekend and don’t have plans scheduled? Feel like avoiding spending your entire weekend in the congested Hamptons? Don’t fret and allow the city to fill your weekend planner. New York City knows how to both take care of its loved ones and honor those who’ve served for this holiday weekend. From free concerts and bike tours during the day, to the spiced up nightlife that the city has to offer, where else would you want to be during a time of remembrance.
Take your mind off of work and help celebrate the brave that lost their lives serving our nation; basically, you owe it to your country (and over-worked selves) to kick back and relax! This weekend can also be seen as your unofficial kick-off to summer, so let the calm vibes and mindless activities give you a preview of a time where the parks are alive with people and the fun never ends. There will be a free concert at the Green-Wood cemetery, where you can listen to a student produced orchestra. While the ISO Symphonic Band performs, indulge in the food you brought for your picnic. Nothing goes better than having a glass of wine of your choice with a loaf of fresh bread and platter of cheese.
Looking for a more patriotic approach to the holiday? To give your respects to veterans and to those who have protected our nation, come experience Fleet Week. It will feature dozens of military demonstrations and displays throughout the week, as well as public tours of ships, a Memorial Day ceremony, and more.
Finish your night with a refreshing cocktail and look over a city of lights at one of NYC’s best rooftop bars, such as SkyRoom in Times Square. Unwind and catch up with family and friends, making this Memorial Day Weekend one to remember.
Over and out,
