We’ve waited all winter for this- warmer weather is upon us and it’s time to fill your calendar with family outings, museum visits, free events and all types of fairs and festivals. Luckily for you, you don’t have to search all over the web to find them. From street eats and art fairs to music and film festivals, we’ve pulled together a few of our favorites in the NYC area for you to enjoy!
Up first, we have the city’s own Tribeca Film Festival from April 16 – April 27th! In the 14 years since Robert De Niro, Jane Rosenthal, and Craig Hatkoff founded it, the Tribeca Film Festival has gone from a neighborhood favorite to one of the East Coast’s most impressive film festivals. Launched after 9/11 to promote the cultural and economic revival of Lower Manhattan, this festival provides a platform for innovative filmmakers to present their latest work.
Beginning with April 16th’s performance and world premiere of the Nas documentary Time is Illmatic, Tribeca will take over several cinemas throughout the city to present an exciting run of narrative and provocative documentary films.
Next up we have the scrumptious 9th Avenue International Food Festival for all you true foodies out there! This festival is an annual event that brings together international cuisine from around the world and is New York’s oldest and largest continuous Food Festival! It extends along 15 blocks of gourmet food and beverages with over 200,000 visitors each year. Some familiar food vendors at the event include 5 Napkin Burger, Cold Stone Creamery and Empanada Mama. How could you not have an appetite for this one? Rain or shine come check it out on May 17th through May 18th along 9th Avenue from 42nd to 57th Streets!
Now, if that didn’t have you drooling, maybe The Governors Ball Music Festival is more your thing. The Governors Ball Music Festival (founded in 2011) provides New Yorkers and tourists a chance to see some of the best musicians the world has to offer. Find out if your favorite artists made it to the 3-day ball here.
Between sets, guests can enjoy the unique scenery of Randall’s Island while playing one of the many free games including corn hole, ping pong, bocce ball, life-size connect four, and ladder ball. Have a jamboree to all types of music at this year’s Gov Ball NYC coming up in June! Get your tix now, they go super fast!
Up next we have a little something for the art and culture connoisseurs out there. It’s called the Frieze Art Fair. Just like the Gov Ball, the Frieze Art Fair also takes place on Randall’s Island in New York City and will be held from May 9th through the 12th. The fair will include over 190 of the world’s leading galleries. Past participating galleries include the Laura Bartlett Gallery, Salon 94, Gallery Hyundai, Peter Blum Gallery, and Yvon Lambert. At the Sculpture Park along the East River, the public can check out new works for free!
Now, us neophiliacs at JJI can’t go without throwing in one just for our fellow tech geeks and blog worms. It’s no other but the Internet Week New York Festival! The IWNY festival is an annual celebration of technology’s impact on business and culture. This year’s festivities will take place from May 19th-25th and will attract more than 45,000 business professionals, founders of New-York-based start ups, and leaders in the tech space, attending 250+ events produced in the IWNY HQ and 150+ organized by citywide event partners. We’ll see you there!
